BIENNALE

Is the most important contemporary art exhibition. It was established in 1895.
It take places in odd year (it means every two years).
Two importan branch of this exhibition are The Venice Film Festival and the Venice Biennale of Architecture.

The Biennale of Architecture in 2012 ended with a 4.7% increase in visitors compared to 2010, reaching a total of 178,000 admissions, equal to 2253 per day.
The decline in sales of ordinary tickets, was offset by the increased presence of students, which has reached 48% of the total.
Common Ground was for the Director of the Biennale david Chipperfild, a major international event for the community of architects.

Feast of San Pietro in Castello
It is held since 1970 on the anniversary of St. Peter and Paul on 29 June.
It 'a Venetian feast for the Venetians, with Venetian rowing races, music for young people and food stands with Venetian specialties, bigoi in sauce, fried fish, sardines in saor.
The event takes place on the island of San Pietro in Castello, near the Arsenale, in the last field in grass, of Venice, in front of the white facade of St. Peter's Basilica, which was until 1807 the seat of the patriarchate of Venice and in the shadow of its leaning tower.
A tour of the festival can be an opportunity to learn about the native Venetians.

Regatta of the "befane" (good witches)
It is held every year on January 6, Epiphany day.
After passing a selection,  five veterans of the oar over the age of 55 years, dressed as witches, challenge each other along the Grand Canal (from S. Toma Rialto) in a race with a boat with an oar called "mascareta" for capture the flag (symbolizing victory) of the first race of the year.

Venice Marathon
The Venice Marathon is now in its 26th edition.
The competition route starts in Stra, Riviera del Brenta, and after more than 42 km reaches Venice in Riva Sette Martiri (Seven Martyrs). This year, for the first time the path is passed through St. Mark Square.
The first edition of 1986 was won by the Italian Salvatore Bettiol and for women,Paola Moro.
The edition of this year was held on October 23 was won Ethiopian Aredia for men and Kenyan Kirop for women.

Next edition will be held on October, 28th 2012
