FEAST OF THE MARIES

According to tradition, the Venetian doge donated twelve beautiful maidens of humble origins, jewelry bring a dowry for their marriage. In memory of this tradition is celebrated the Feast of the Maries, which opens Saturday, February 7 with a parade from the Riva degli Schiavoni to Piazza San Marco.
Twelve young Venetian girls, accompanied by numerous figures in costume will arrive in Piazza San Marco around 16.00 for the traditional presentation to the population.
The event will close on February 17 with the awarding of the Maria of Venice Carnival 2015

NEW 2014 - FIRST ZOMBIE WALK

Saturday, February 15th will be held the first Zombie Walk, an event included in the official program of the Venice Carnival.
The march will start from the Zattere at 16.00 with meeting at 15:00
The parade arrives at the Campo della Pescheria, a short walk from the Rialto where the event will continue with music until late at night.
It was also organized a landing of zombies to the Zattere by preparing a boat that will start from Tronchetto but with limited seating.
In case of rain the event will be held from 17.00 in the Campo della Pescheria, which has many covered spaces

PRESENTATION OF VENICE CARNIVAL 2014

The Artistic Director of the City of Venice in partnership with Vela spa presented the new guidelines for the Carnival of Venice 2014.
It will be a Carnival of Venice 2014 inspired by world of fairy tales,  by the fantastic, by the enchanted forests and the wonders of nature.



WONDER AND FANTASY NATURE
A FAIRY-TALE CARNIVAL - THE FANTASY FOREST

It will be an opportunity to consider, in the context of the Carnival of Venice, myths and legends that have been forgotten, from the distant peoples with which Venice has been in contact in the past, or even originated in the forests that once covered the Alpine region surrounding the Serenissima Republic.

In Venice, visited in his past by travelers from every known land, the myths and legends of the distant peoples, became intertwined and acquired a new identity and vitality.
Inside the event will be possible revisit the legends about the creatures of the woods of northern Europe, but also those from Africa and Asia, where arrived the Venetian boats.
The theme of the event will also lead to re-establish the contact of man and  modern societies, with nature and the environment, challenges increasingly important and timely.

NEW  2014
THE NIGHTS OF THE ARSENAL
After the parenthesis for the America's Cup will the Arsenale reopen its doors to welcome  Venice Carnival and develop his theme NATURE FANTASTIC.
The event will take place for six nights from Thursday, February 27th to Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The six nights will feature lights, water fountains and entertainment, with every evening in memory of the history of the arsenal.

From St. Mark's to Arsenal: notes on the water
Each evening, from Carnival Thursday to Mardi Gras, boats with the official logo of the Carnival will sail from San Marco carrying an orchestra and street artists directly into the Great Dock at the Arsenale.
Other boats decorated for the occasion will depart from Piazzale Roma and Rialto. Even public transport will be enhanced with a stop Basins, which will allow public access from the northern side of the lagoon.
At the end of the demonstrations in St. Mark's Square, around 18, a touring band, accompanied by the conductors of the event and  artists on stilts will embark to Riva Maravegie at the Arsenal. Although the public will be allowed to climb for free.

All'interno dell'area saranno effettuati interventi per ricreare l'atmosfera dell'Arsenale, al momento del suo massimo splendore.
Vicino la gru storico, i musicisti si esibiranno ogni sera da tutta Italia. La notte del Martedì Grasso apertura sarà aperta dalla festa della Taranta pugliese.

Memoirs of the Arsenale: from the fire of 1569 at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571
Directed by David Rampello will be relived the annals of the sixteenth century of the Arsenal. The narrator is an unnamed Venetian galley slave, believed responsible for the fire in 1569 that destroyed the Arsenal.
Colored water fountains, accompanied by a soundtrack of great impact, guide the audience into the narrative until the final fireworks.
The show will be repeated twice in the afternoon and in the evening, to allow the widest possible audience to see it.

Presented December 5 the official program of the Venice Carnival 2013 which will be held February 2 to 12 with a prologue on 26 and 27 January 2013, will be the theme of the carnival - LIVE IN COLOUR, noting that the presence of color in the city, in its buildings and their reflection in the water, also recalling the works of the great Venetian painters, masters of color, from Caravaggio to Titian, Bellini, Giorgione, Guardi.

The Flight of the Angel, the Eagle and the Lion will take place respectively on Sunday February 3, Sunday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Given the proximity to the Christmas and New Year will be retrieved the old start date of the Carnival of Venice, corresponding to 26 December day of St. Stephens, to create a prodromal event in the Carnival itself.
Therefore the New Year 2013 in Venice,. will be a New Year's masked.

This program can be integrated with news of events and festivals from time to time communicated.

The Rowing of Silence is a spectacular procession of gondolas and other common rowing boats, candlelight, leave Rialto to reach St. Mark's Basin.
The symbolic end of Carnival 2013 and the appointment to the edition of the Carnival of Venice 2014, will be when the procession arrive in Punta of Customs.

VENICE CARNIVAL 2012

The traditional festivities for the Venice Carnival will be held in 2012 between 4 and 21 February involving three weekends.
The Venice Carnival program has events for all budgets, from the festivities inthe publics squares to mundane events in the most famous hotels.
The opening of the program is done with the traditional flight of the Colombina, in which a girl dressed as an angel (godmother of the Carnival) fly down from the bell tower in St Mark Square hanging from a steel cable.
