Getting here

City guide

VENICE TRAVEL

You can travel to Venice by air
, by train, by car or coach and since the city lies on a lagoon you can even come here by ship.
So, getting here is fairly easy.
All you need to do is choose the type of transport that is most suitable for you.

TRAVEL TO VENICE BY AIR

Many airlines operate flights to Venice, so you shouldn't have a problem to choose one.
You will land at Marco Polo Venice Airport , one of the most important in Italy. The terminal roughly 20 kilometres from the city. (Venice airport site
)

FROM MARCO POLO AIRPORT TO VENICE CENTER

You can choose different ways to get to the city centre, by water taxi, by "vaporetto" (a motorboat bus), by taxi or by bus.
By water taxi
is the quickest way but also the more expensive. It cost about 100 euro to transfer from airport to centre city for up to 5 passengers. You can also book your ticket online, before to depart from home.  (go to booking page)

TIP: Purchase a Return ticket to and from the airport and save 10%

Otherwise, you can use the direct public transportation service from Venice's Marco Polo Airport to all the main areas of Venice and its port via sea. Alilaguna is the more comfortable and fastest way to reach the Historic Centre of Venice. As the previous option you can buy online the ticket (go to Alilaguna official site)

TRAVEL BY TRAIN

When we arrive in Venice, as the town is divided into two parts, one insular and another on the mainland
we are always faced with two options.
The first to arrive in Venice by train directly to the station of Saint Lucia, the second get off at Mestre.
It depends on where you intend to stay.
From the Saint Lucia station we can take a water taxi or a vaporetto (public motorboat ACTV) or go on foot to get     our accommodation in the historic center of Venice.
From Venezia-Mestre railway station we will take a taxi or ACTV bus to reach our lodging (see ACTV time table)

TRAVEL BY CAR

To get to Venice by car you must take the A57 highway that is divided from the main highway A4 Milan-Trieste.

If you want come by car I suggest you leave your car in one of the P+R parking places (if you aren't staying in a hotel with a car park inside) and use public transportation for travelling to Venice.
Recall that within the city of Venice has banned the transit of any vehicle, including bicycles.
Parking can be found around  Piazzale Roma, and the island of Tronchetto
Be aware that on the busiest tourist days car parks in the city are often full, and it's better to look for parking outside Venice, for example in Mestre.
Here you can find some informations about the most important car parks in the area.
